Below is a Q&A with Eric K., a 5 year fantasy player who participates in 2 leagues each year. He shares his thoughts on how he uses PlayThisGuy!
.
How long have you been playing fantasy football and how many teams do you manage each year?
.
This is my fifth year. It’s my first managing two teams – lots of fun and will definitely do that again. But I can’t imagine trying to take on any more!.
.
How did you hear about PlayThisGuy.com?
.
I saw an article in the Wall Street Journal’s sports section last season (yes, they do have one and it’s actually an interesting read). The idea of aggregating data from the dozens of sources out there to get at the really useful stuff made a lot of sense to me. Just wish I’d thought of it first.
.
What do you like most about PlayThisGuy! and how is it helping you win more often?
.
Two things: first I really like the blog posts. Some are more helpful than others, but they are always fun and thought-provoking. Second, the Consensus and SMART rankings are essential. Both leagues I am in have a deadline of Tuesday evening to put in your waiver wire requests – I’m always taking a look at the Playthisguy rankings on Tuesday afternoon and evening to see if there’s anyone I should make a claim on. Then on Friday or Saturday, I use the position rankings and sit/start lists to make my final lineup calls.
.
The rankings were also vital during draft time. With two drafts happening very close together, I needed a reliable source – PlayThisGuy! let me get the wisdom of the crowds, rather than just the wisdom of one random dude. Using a ‘best player available” strategy, I nabbed some quality RBs and had depth to do a big trade with. The Consensus list of sleepers was also huge for me as I’ve ridden a few of them to some wins.
.
What tips on how you use PlayThisGuy! could you share with others?
Know the difference between the PlayThisGuy! scoring system and that of your league’s (see PlayThisGuy! standard scoring model below). Someone like Wes Welker is an okay play under a standard format like the one PlayThisGuy! has but he can be much more valuable in a PPR league. If your league’s settings are very different from PlayThisGuy! you’ll have to make some mental adjustments as you use their lists. The links to the most accurate sites can be helpful here as some of those sites have rankings under alternative or customizable scoring formats.
